While Attorney General Jeff Sessions was nominated his nomination hearings were riddled with controversy. Congressional Democrats labeled him a bigot and tried thwarting his approval. But it did not work. However, the left is having less and less to complain about as he does his job better and better.
Sessions has now publicly stated he is willing to hire independent and bipartisan counsel to investigate the corruption of the Obama era administration with the Department of Justice and the Internal Revenue Service.
The former Senator spoke to radio host Hugh Hewitt where he left the door open for new Council to come in and work on these controversial issues. He said,
“Well I’m going to do everything I possibly can to restore the independence and professionalism of the Department of Justice. So we’ll have to consider whether or not some outside counsel is needed. Generally, a good review of that internally is the first step before any such decision is made.”
He noted that should independent council find wrongdoing that the authority of the Attorney General’s office can bring on charges. If charges were to he brought then a full investigation would have to take place.
This comes at a time when liberals have been pushing the department for an independent and bipartisan investigation into Donald Trump and his surrogates ties to Russia. The President has called for an independent investigation into whether the Obama administration wiretapped his 2016 presidential campaign. It appears that the oversight and intelligence committees in the Senate and House of Representatives are going to be mightily busy.

After this announcement, there is no way that Democrats could honestly argue with any integrity that the new acting Attorney General is not doing his due diligence. But God knows they will find something to complain about. They hate Jeff Sessions almost as much as they hate Betsy DeVos.
