The Colin Kaepernick national anthem protest is now expected to have long term consequences. People are taking their outrage to the polls. A new poll indicates that 44% of viewers will shut off their television and unsubscribe of the national anthem protests continue.
Results were from a Yahoo poll following a showing of the Nielsen ratings. This past week’s Monday Night Football has already taken a bit. It had some of the lowest ratings in ESPN since over a decade ago. Some believe it may also have to do with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning not playing.
A third of poll responders indicates they support Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protests. While half are opposed to them. Good for them! A fifth of the responders indicates they did not care about the protests. Showing results that are all over the board.
Kaepernick’s national anthem protest began at the beginning of the season. He is a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. He argued he was doing it to being attention to police brutality and racism perpetrated against African Americans. Unfortunately, he has also worn a Fidel Castro shirt to a press conference, socks depicting police officers as pigs and an off handed remark in which he said cosmetologists get more thorough training than police officers. Clearly we all know what side of the aisle he stands on.
Three out of five yahoo responders think that what Kaepernick is doing is wrong. Which is pretty in par with how the majority of this country feels. The majority of his supporters are African Americans and millennials. Only a little more than one quarter of Caucasians support his protests. Which is not remotely shocking at all.
The survey also showed that forty two percent desired the league to mandate the protests not be allowed. While forty two percent wanted the league to ignore it and take no action. Kaepernick’s actions had landed him on the cover of TIME magazine and he refuses to stop anytime soon.
Hopefully ESPN takes the hint and tells Kapernick to stick it where the sun don’t shine. Kaepernick is nothing more than a fame hungry mediocre football player looking for his fifteen minutes. They will be over eventually and he will fade back into nothingness just like where he was before.
