Commander-in-Chief Obama has once again stepped on our troops fighting overseas.
In this latest example of disrespecting our fighting men and women, he released a high profile prisoner to his home country.
The prisoner, Latif Mehsud, a high-ranking Pakastani Taliban commander, was initially captured on a dangerous mission in 2013 and held by U.S. forces at Bagram Air Base.
Mehsud was the second-in-command to former Taliban Chief, Hakimullah Mehsud, who was killed by a U.S. drone strike.
Repatriating a known terrorist leader is something that officials have called a “rare move.”
What it really feels like is a giant slap in the face to the soldiers that helped make his capture happen in the first place.
The move was said to be one that would help “warm” relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, who are often involved in cross-border skirmishes.
Pakistan is technically a U.S. ally, but if we’re being honest, they’ve played their own game for the last decade.
Two other men were with Mehsud and were also transferred to Pakastani government officials on a “secret flight” that transported the prisoners back to their home country. (H/TReaganCoalition)
Though the U.S. never confirmed Mehsud was on the flight, several senior officials in the know did confirm.
One of the main concerns is that whenever Pakastani prisoners are released back into the custody of their home country, they’re often released immediately by authorities.
U.S. military officials in Afghanistan released a statement about the unusual transfer, saying, “In making a decision to transfer a detainee, we take into account the totality of relevant factors relating to the individual and the government that may receive him, including but not limited to any diplomatic assurances that have been provided.”
In other words, it leads one to wonder what was given in exchange for the swap – likely behind closed doors.
In any case, being the second highest-ranking member of the Taliban, according to Obama, is not a huge deal – just a year in the slammer and the released back into the wild.
It’s infuriating, to say the least, that Obama treats Pakistan like a long-time friend and continues to give true allies like Israel the proverbial finger every chance he gets.
