A federal criminal complaint revealed that a Somali national was caught trafficking illegal immigrants across the U.S.-Mexican border.

Omar Haji Mohamed, a citizen of Somalia, was stopped at a border checkpoint in Why, Arizona, according to Arizona’s ABC 15 News. The man was reportedly “paid a lot money” to sneak people into the U.S. over the southern border.

Mohamed’s native home is particularly concerning since earlier this month a 20-year-old Somali-American security guard from Minnesota’s Twin Cities area was charged by federal prosecutors with providing material support to Islamic State terrorists.

He was the 10th member of the Twin Cities Somali community to be charged with supporting a terrorist organization.

This latest incident could have been predicted by Arizona’s Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu.

“The new norm here is the Obama administration says the border is wide open (and) that there is no law when it comes to immigration,” he told Fox Business News host Neil Cavuto, Monday.

“The arms are open, and that’s the message that’s been sent,” Babeu said.

PHOENIX – A Somali citizen was paid to help sneak people across the U.S. border, according to a criminal complaint in Federal Court.

Last week, according to the paperwork, Omar Haji Mohamed, a Somali citizen, was stopped at a border checkpoint in Why, Arizona, near the Tohono O’odham Nation.

Agents say Mohamed was driving a silver Volvo SUV with two other passengers. After an investigation, agents say they determined the two passengers were: Gilberto Alcantar and Alma Delia Reyes-Castillo. Both were illegal immigrants from Mexico, according to an affidavit.

The criminal complaint alleges that Alcantar and Reyes-Castillo told agents, “They had made arrangements to enter the United States illegally….their guide instructed them to find a gray Volvo SUV after entering the United States.”

Both Alcantar and Reyes-Castillo identified Mohamed as their driver, according to the criminal complaint.
