Attacks on police officers seem to be on the rise in this country. And it’s not entirely surprising as to why. Barack Obama has continually encouraged racial divisions in this country, as well as encouraged the Black Lives Matter movement to encourage hatred of police officers. But a new president is about to take office… and open season on officers in this country is about to come to an end.
Officers are regularly being ambushed in despicable violent attacks across the country. And Texas lawmakers want to send a message that their state is not the state to attack police in. Republican State Rep. Jason Villalba has introduced a bill that would make intentionally targeting a police officer a hate crime.
“We’re going to ask that it become an emergency legislative item for the governor so that as soon as we get to Austin in January, we pass it right away, make it law right away,” Villalba said. The law would apply not only to police officers, but also to other first responders, like firefighters and emergency medical personnel.
It’s about time someone took some action to protect the men and women who put their lives on the line for us every day.
