BREAKING: Thug Shoots Three CA Officers, 2 Dead, 1 Critical

Another targeting of police by thugs has turned deadly. Three Southern California police officers have been shot. Two officers have been confirmed to have been killed, one is in an area hospital.

Officers were responding to a domestic disturbance call in Palms Springs, CA when the suspect opened fire on them. Two are dead, and one is being treated for his wounds. A SWAT team is currently on the scene.

The ambush took place at Racquet Club Road and Sunrise way around noon on Saturday.

Police Chief Bryan Reyes became emotional as he told reporters of the killings. The officers were at the front door of the residence when the suspect opened fire on them.

“They were responding to a simple family disturbance and [the gunman] elected to open fire on the guardians of this city,” Reyes said during a press conference.

Reyes told reporters that the officers killed were Jose Gilbert Vega and Lelsey Zerebny, 27. The name of the wounded officer is not known at this time.

The chief said that the scene was still active and that the suspect is believed to be somewhere in the home. An update is expected later with a history of police responses to the residence.

A neighbor who witnessed the shooting said that he saw an injured female officer (Lesley Zerebny) on the ground as fellow officers attempted to resuscitate her.

Sergeant William Hutchinson said that multiple SWAT teams were at the scene of the shooting. Palms Springs police issued a “code red alert” and the surrounding area was being evacuated.

Hutchinson told reporters to inform the public that, “If you do live somewhere in the area, keep your doors locked. Please do not answer your doors for anybody.”

The initial disturbance is believed to have stemmed from an argument between a father and son. The neighbor who witnessed the shooting, Juan Graciano, said that he heard loud yelling, and then saw the father leave the house and ask another neighbor to call the police. The father said that his son wanted to “kill police.”

Pictures and video posted to social media showed a massive police presence in the area.

Officer Lelsey Zerebny was 27 and was a new mother of a 4-month-old child. Officer Vega was a 35-year veteran who was retiring at the end of the year.

May the fallen officers RIP, and the families be comforted.
