via USHerald: Donald Trump has proved time and time again that he isn’t afraid of speaking his mind, even if it means that he offends someone. That was the case in the most recent GOP Presidential debate when Trump was the only one brave enough to talk about one of the worst economic debacles that has happened on U.S. soil.
In a video that was made viral by the tears and outbursts of the 1,400 workers losing their jobs, Carrier, an air conditioning company, recently announced the closing of their Indianapolis, Indiana plant. The plant is being moved to Mexico where the company can cut costs by employing Mexican workers for far less than they pay their current employees.
During the GOP debate, Trump was the only candidate to address the move by Carrier, something that he referenced as simply the next step in a series of business-losing moves by the United States.
“[Many countries] are taking our jobs. They are taking our wealth… We’re going to bring that money back.”
Though many people have dubiously asked what Trump would do if he were president, he was clear in the debate about how he would move forward with this specific situation.
“I would go right now to Carrier and I would say I am going to work awfully hard. . . . I’m going to tell them right now, I am going to get consensus from Congress and we’re going to tax you when those air conditioners come. So stay where you are or build in the United States because we are killing ourselves with trade pacts that are no good for us and no good for our workers.”
It would be a refreshing change to have a president who stands up for American trade and American workers. Obama’s recently passed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) has only resulted in more opportunities for lost American labor.
Perhaps it’s time that more people took Mr. Trump and his reputation as a builder and a businessman seriously. It’s becoming more and more clear that America is in dire need of a savvy, business-minded leader at its helm.
