After the recount the final results of the presidential election show that Hillary Clinton beat Donald Trump in the popular vote by 2.8 million votes. However, she lost by a wide margin in the electoral college. The final results also showed Clinton win California by 4.2 million votes and New York by 1.6 million.
However, the combined 5.8 million vote advantage she had there was more than twice the size of her total nationwide edge. When the dust settled, she actually lost the popular vote by 3 million votes outside of California and New York according to the Daily Mail UK.
Trump took to his social media page to tweet a message on Wednesday where he almost flat out said that winning the electoral college was far more detailed, difficult and arduous to try and do than winning the popular vote. He wrote,
“Campaigning for votes under the Electoral College system is much more difficult, and different, than the popular vote.”
He deleted it almost immediately after sending it out but twenty minutes later he replaced it with an even worse and more aggressive tweet that took a shot at Clinton. He said,
“Campaigning to win the Electoral College is much more difficult & sophisticated than the popular vote. Hillary focused on the wrong states!”
Then in a follow up message he said,
“I would have done even better in the election, if that is possible, if the winner was based on popular vote – but would campaign differently.”
Then he added,
“I have not heard any of the pundits or commentators discussing the fact that I spent FAR LESS MONEY on the win than Hillary on the loss!”
In the end Trump had a 306 vote electoral win. It slipped to 304 due to two electors being “faithless,” but it was nonetheless a landslide win despite opposition trying to take his win away from him. Clinton finished with 232 electoral votes, but 5 electors didn’t vote for her so she ended with 227.
Newt Gingrich blasted liberals who say that Trump’s win is not valid because he did not win the popular vote. He said on Fox & Friends,
“This is football season. A team can have more yards and lose the game. What matters is how many points you put on the board. The Electoral College is the points.”
Democrats simply cannot accept the fact that they lost and they are looking to blame everyone else but themselves. They blame James Comey of the FBI, the Russian hackers, the conservative media, Huma Abedin. Everyone but the one person they should which was their nominee.
