In the wake of the execution-style murders of two New York Police Department cops last week by a black Muslim gang member, tensions are high around the country as other officers seek to avoid the same fate.
And their concerns would appear to be valid, as first reports came of rifle shots fired on two officers in Los Angeles, and now of a similar incident near Tampa Bay, Fla.
Two Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies were sitting in separate cars while monitoring Dade City traffic when three shots were fired at them at about 3:30 am Sunday.
Neither deputy was injured, nor have those responsible been located.
The previous evening, more than 100 Pasco County deputies had attended funeral services for Tarpon Springs Police officer Charles Kondek, a former member of the NYPD who had been fatally shot on Dec. 21, the day after the execution-style murders of NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos by black Muslim gang member Ismaaiyl Brinsley.
Tarpon Springs is just south of Pasco County.
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco told the Tampa Bay Times that “absolutely disgusting” graffiti reading “Shoot MP cop” had been spotted Friday. MP would appear to refer to Meadow Pointe, a community in southern Pasco County, just north of Tampa Bay.
“The pendulum has swung against law enforcement,” Nocco told the Times. “There’s a lot of violence going on in our community, and there are a lot of people threatening law enforcement for unjust reasons” (H/T The Washington Times).
Local media covered the story, of course, and it has been picked up by a few conservative-leaning sources like The Washington Times, but the mainstream media continues largely to ignore both this and the story of shots fired at the L.A. policemen.
Check out the latest headlines on CNN’s website for yourself. You can read about the latest video from “Camp Gyno girl” and Screech’s day in court, but you won’t see either of these stories about attacks on police officers on their “The Lastest” or “More Top Stories” lists.
On second thought, don’t check out CNN’s website for yourself. Let’s not give them any more encouragement.
