From Conservative Tribune: New York City councilwoman Laurie Cumbo, who is black and a Democrat, endorsed the benefits of segregating tenants by ethnic groups in the dilapidated Fort Greene housing neighborhood in Brooklyn. The mainstream media has remained silent.
Cumbo’s remark came during a discussion about large numbers of Asians moving into the housing project, in which one of the founding members of the Wu Tang Clan grew up.
She attempted to clarify her statement to the New York Post by stating, “There could be some benefit to housing people by culture.”
Apparently, Cumbo has not ever paid attention to Black History Month and does not understand the whole point of the civil rights movement led by Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Locally, Cumbo’s comments were immediately met with opposition. Chinese American councilwoman Margaret Chin told the Post, “She certainly could’ve chosen her words a bit more carefully.”
Cumbo has issued a public apology for the remarks, stating that she only wanted to know if there was a “cultural preference priority component” used in the selection of new tenants by the New York Housing Authority.
According to Housing Authority spokeswoman Shola Olatoye, there was no such preference. Chin remarked that more Asian American families have applied for entry into these housing projects (H/T The Daily Caller).
In summary, a black councilwoman has called for a discussion of the benefits of segregation because she was concerned that too many Asians are moving into her district, and the mainstream media is completely ignoring her comments.
Now why do you suppose that is?
