Semantha Bunce who is 21 years old was shot two times during a home invasion this last Tuesday in East Charlotte, North Carolina. However, Bunce is a combat medic who works for the North Carolina National Guard who was armed and took no time in bring her intruders down with some gunfire of her own.
Semantha’s husband Paul Bunce told the media that he believes it is his wife’s military training that allowed her to stay calm in a crisis until the EMT’s were able to arrive on the scene to treat her. This likely could have saved her life. Which also saved the life of their four month old newborn baby. Sadly, she was feeding the baby as the attack began.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Capt. Chuck Henson told reporters,
“The victim, she made it through surgery and she seems to be doing all right.”
One attached has turned himself in. He is 23-year-old Reco Latur Dawkins Jr. and he has now been charged with attempted murder, felony breaking and entering as well as conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering. Quite some serious crimes.
“This investigation is going full force ahead. They’re working it very, very hard and I’m very confident that we’ll have an arrest in it at some point.”
Neighbors were shocked by the attack and surprised by what went down. It was not something they expected in any way shape or form. One neighbor told reporters with WSOC-TV,
“It’s a big shock to find something going on like that just a few houses down.”
