Over the course of the past year, the race issue has been brought to the forefront of the social agenda thanks to seemingly unending protests by supporters of those who think criminals like Michael Brown and Eric Garner were deliberately gunned down by racist white police officers in order to suppress prosperity in the black community.
But not according to Hollywood superstar Morgan Freeman. When asked by CNN’s Don Lemon if he thinks race is affecting wealth distribution and the ability to succeed, his answer completely demolished this common lie.
Freeman answered Lemon with, “Today? No. You and I, we’re proof. What does race have anything to do with it? Put your mind to what you want to do and go for that,” he said, as he stared Lemon in the eye.
Keep in mind, Freeman is not a conservative by any stretch of the imagination, but even he realizes that in this day and age, while improvements can always be made, it’s up to the individual to pull themselves up.
Race-baiters like Al Sharpton, outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder and even our own president have thrown their support behind the movement, making it seem as though race is still holding back minorities in 2015.
But isn’t that hypocrisy at its finest? President Obama and Attorney General Holder — two black men who have attained the highest offices in U.S. government.
Al Sharpton lines his pockets by profiting off the perpetual spread of this common lie about race and its effect on success.
But just ask men like Dr. Ben Carson, Allen West and Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke what they have to say about race and wealth distribution.
Success depends on the individual, plain and simple. Some people, including whites, blacks and every other ethnicity have to start at the very bottom and work a little harder to get where they want to be, but this is still America and by following Freeman’s advice, the opportunities for anyone in this country are virtually endless.
