First, the Obama administration insisted that Russia had tampered with the election, ensuring a victory for Donald Trump. The CIA said they had “evidence” of the interference, but other intelligence officials denied the claims. Still, it gave them the chance to make yet another excuse as to why Hillary Clinton didn’t win. It wasn’t her fault; it was all Russia!
Josh Earnest, White House spokesman, was giving a press conference where he criticized Trump for questioning Obama’s claims of Russia “stealing” the election for Trump. But in the process of trying to hit back at Trump, Earnest made an epic Freudian slip.
“What I’ve tried to do is present object facts and I think the objective fact that’s relevant here is the intelligence community, a month before the election, came forward and presented a unanimous view, a high-confidence assessment, that China was engaged in malicious cyber activity to destabilize our political system,” he said.
Wait, what?? So now it’s China stealing the election, too?
Unfortunately for Earnest, the press pool didn’t let his slip go, and immediately called him out for it. “You said China,” one reporter shouted. “You meant…”
“I’m sorry, I meant Russia. Flipping back and forth between topics. It’s tricky,” Earnest answered quickly. Whoops.
You know, if it’s so hard to talk about two different topics, then maybe he isn’t the best person to serve as the White House spokesman. Meanwhile, he’s continuing to leave a lot of important information out. The CIA, for example, said they think Russia is behind the DNC and John Podesta hacks, but they don’t have actual evidence proving it. The CIA also has pointed out that while the hacker in question might be Russian in ethnicity, that doesn’t mean they are connected to the Russian government. The FBI also has publicly disagreed with the CIA’s assessment regarding Russia.
Hey, maybe that’s why Earnest slipped China out there. The Russia story isn’t working, so now it’s time to start blaming China. They’ll throw any excuse out there that they can, all so they can avoid the actual truth: that Hillary Clinton ultimately ran a terrible campaign, and lost due to her own arrogance and complacency. She has no one to blame but herself.
