Headlines were made when Dwayne Wade’s cousin was brutally shot down in Chicago while taking her baby out for a walk in a stroller. He posted on social media about it upset about what happened. Chicago is known for their serious gun and gang violence issue. Especially the south side.
Chicago Sun Times reports,
“A woman pushing a baby stroller was accidentally killed in a shooting Friday afternoon in the South Side Parkway Gardens neighborhood. She was identified by relatives as the cousin of NBA star Dwayne Wade, and the Chicago Bulls player confirmed it on Twitter.
“My cousin was killed today in Chicago,” Wade Tweeted Friday. “Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal.” About 3:30 p.m., the 32-year-old victim was walking with a baby stroller and a man in the 6300 block of South Calumet when two male suspects walked up and fired shots, according to Chicago Police.
Deputy Chief of Detectives James Jones said,
“As she was walking down the street some type of altercation occurred which didn’t involve her. We are talking to a couple of individuals that were in the area that have given us information regarding the shooting. We don’t know what their involvement is and we are trying to hash out specifically and verify their story.”
Jolinda Wayde who is Wayne’s mother and presumable the victims aunt said at a town hall meeting on Friday saying,
“Just sat up on a panel yesterday, The Undefeated, talking about the violence that’s going on within our city of Chicago, never knowing that the next day we would be the ones that would be actually living and experiencing it.”
