After being called a mean word by the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, President Barack Obama canceled a meeting with the leader that had been scheduled for today
So what has started it all? Fed up with drug violence in his country, Duterte has launched a violent war on drugs. His campaign legalized vigilante justice, telling the public that they wouldn’t be punished for murdering drug dealers. 2,400 alleged drug users and drug dealers have been killed in the past two months since the campaign was launched.
Duterte had threatened to curse out Obama if he raised the issue of vigilante by Philippine authorities and citizens in their drug crackdown. Duterte told reports that the Philippines is a “sovereign state and we have long ceased to be a colony,” according to the Associated Press.
He added: “I do not have any master except the Filipino people, nobody but nobody. You must be respectful. Do not just throw questions. ‘Putang ina,’ I will swear at you in that forum.” To translates, that’s the for “son of a bitch” or “son of a whore.”
Needless to say, Obama didn’t take the words kindly, and canceled his visit.
As Conservative Post reported:
Barack Obama was humiliated this week when Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte spoke out to call Obama a “son of a b**ch.”
According to Breitbart, Duterte demanded that Obama behave respectfully during the G20 summit in China. If he does not, Duterte said, “son of a b*tch, I will swear at you in that forum.”
“What I’ve instructed my team to do is to talk to their Philippine counterparts to find out is this in fact a time when we can have constructive, productive conversations,” he said.
Obama added that the U.S. will “always assert” the need for due process in prosecution of drug criminals, citing basic international norms. He then said that despite Duterte’s comments, he will bring this up at the meeting.
Obama called Duterte a “colorful” leader, but reasserted the United States close relationship with the Philippines.
“I have seen some of those colorful statements in the past so clearly he’s a colorful guy,” Obama replied to reporters when he was asked about the comments.
Regardless of what you think about his solution to his nation’s drug problem, he’s a bit tougher on Islamic terrorism than Barack. The Philippines are home to an ISIS affiliated Islamist group called Abu Sayaff. Rather than pretend they have nothing to do with Islam, he told the militants that in retaliation to their most recent attacks in his country, that “They will pay. When the time comes, I will eat you in front of people.”
I have to admit, I’d have a bit more respect for Obama if he started threatening terrorists like that.
