One very motivated little girl heard what a wounded warrior needed and selflessly rose to the occasion to help raise $6000 for his dogs training. Nick Bailey is an Army Iraq war veteran who served two tours overseas.
Nick was severely wounded when a rocket exploded near him causing him to have permanent debilitating spinal cord injuries in addition to Post Traumatic Stress. From WCSC:
[quote_box_center]“For me, it’s just amazing that an 8-year-old girl would show any interest in me or my dog,” Bailey said.*Because of post traumatic stress from his military service, Bailey finds it hard to go out in public alone, and also suffers with mobility issues.*After he, and wife Vanessa noticed a strong connection between Nicholas and their pet German Shepherd, rather than take a government-issued service dog, the couple decided to train their dog Abel.[/quote_box_center]
Training service animals can be very expensive as the Bailey’s discovered.
[quote_box_center]Now, Nicholas and Vanessa are working to enroll him in a Myrtle Beach training school, Canine Angels, a program designed to help dogs like Abel overcome fear, also fine-tuning other skills needed to act as a complete service dog.*The cost of that training is nearly $6000.[/quote_box_center]
This is where Rachel Mennett heard about the issues Nick was having getting assistance from other veteran groups, so her eight year-old daughter stepped up to make a difference. She has a lemonade stand while her brother runs a bake sale to help raise the funds.
