New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has not had a good week. The hard-left Democrat’s racially divisive rhetoric finally caught up with him, leading to the cold-blooded murder of two police officers.
To make matters worse, the New York Police Department now despises him even more than they did before the attacks. And keep in mind, the policeman’s union had already banned the mayor from attending the funerals of police officers.
Now comes news that the Big Apple Bolshevik did something even more reprehensible after the murders of officers Wenjian Liu and Raphael Ramos.
Or rather, it’s what he didn’t do.
Namely, visit the families of the deceased.
It’s bad enough that de Blasio’s radical rhetoric contributed to the deaths of two of his own police officers, but according to the family of Raphael Ramos, the mayor doesn’t even have the courtesy to pay a visit to the family of a fallen hero (H/T Opposing Views).
“It would be nice for him to come here and say something to us that can lift our spirits and give us hope for the future,” said Ronnie Gonzalez, a cousin of officer Ramos.
Gonzalez added that the family had been visited by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who had traveled down from Albany, yet had been ignored by someone who merely had to travel across town.
Gonzalez called the mayor’s inattention to the family of the slain officer an “act of cowardice,” a phrase which succinctly describes the majority of Mayor de Blasio’s tenure in office.
Nevertheless, the Ramos family would still welcome a visit from the mayor.
“We’re not disrespectful. We’re not going to throw him out,” Gonzalez said. “We want to bury our cousin and our son and grieve in peace.”
Gonzalez’s conciliatory attitude is not shared by all police officers, many of whom turned their back on the mayor as he walked into a news conference about the murders.
It may be time for all New Yorkers to turn their back on their socialist mayor, too.
