Harold Estes died at the age of 97 in Hawaii, but before his death, he wrote a letter to President Obama. This letter was straight from the heart and written in 2009 when Obama was about to take off for his “apology” tour in the months after his inauguration. Estes did not spare Obama from some hard truths and felt entitled to his opinion due to his service and the virtue of his age. Harold Estes enlisted in the Navy in 1934 and served his country, during and after the war, for 23 years. He retired as a Master Chief Boatswains Mate. Estes was born during World War I and saw his parents struggle through the depression. He grew up in a time much different from today. Estes letter to Obama would almost predict the direction the Obama years would take us. After eight years under the Obama administration we have seen an increase in disrespect for law enforcement and the military, the Black Lives Matter movement obsessed with race and a lack of love for our great Nation.
Harold Estes began his letter…“Dear President Obama, One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man. I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish. I can’t figure out what country you are the president of…”
Estes slams Obama’s quote,“ America hasn’t lived up to her ideals,” and gives Obama a history lesson. Estes reminds Obama of the “11,000 farmers and shopkeepers who died to win independence from the British” and the half-million men who died for the “ideal that no man should be a slave to another.” “I hope you didn’t mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII.” “I don’t think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.”
Estes tell Obama “you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, you’re the Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job.” To end his letter Estes tells Obama to “Shape up and start acting like an American.”
It is indeed tragic that Estes warning fell on Obama’s deaf ears. We have seen our beloved America become a shell of what it once was. This nation has felt a great divide with Obama in the white house. The hope, that we patriotic American’s hold to, are men and woman like Mr. Harold Estes who fearlessly speak from the heart and stand up for what is right. Thank you, Master Chief Estes, for your 23 years of service and may you rest in peace.
