You may remember Michael Sandford. He was the illegal immigrant who tried to assassinate Donald Trump in June, but was thankfully stopped before he could go through with his plan. But apparently, attempting to assassinate a presidential candidate isn’t that big of a deal — he was only sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Back in June, Sandford attended a Trump rally in Las Vegas at the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino. Before going to the rally, he had been practicing his shooting. He said that he wanted to get a police officer’s autograph, but instead went for his gun so he could try to shoot Trump.
Here’s the chilling video:
In addition to his attempted assassination, Sandford was also in the United States illegally. Originally from Great Britain, he overstayed his visa and drove from California to Las Vegas when he learned Trump would be there.
He was arrested after his assassination attempt, and in September, plead guilty to being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and disrupting an official function. Then, this week he was officially sentenced… and it was only to 12 months in prison.
How is it that someone can attempt to assassinate a presidential candidate, and only receive what amounts to a slap on the wrist?
